History of the Estate Château Charmail

    the story of Château Charmail

    Château Charmail

    BETWEEN FAMILIES AND FRIENDSHIPS

In the 16th century, the Bordeaux region saw the arrival of numerous families from around the world. The village of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, in the Haut-Médoc, witnessed the establishment of the Trevey de Charmail family. The château took the name of its original owners and has remained so ever since. However, vines were not cultivated there upon their arrival. It was indeed 200 years later, in the 18th century, that the vineyard began to develop, and its reputation was established from then on. In 1982, Olivier Sèze, an agronomist by training and a true enthusiast, acquired the estate and modernized it. Château Charmail underwent a complete restructuring. New winemaking techniques were developed to unlock the full potential of the wines produced on the property.

In 2008, the estate was purchased by Bernard d'Halluin, a passionate wine enthusiast originally from northern France. This act marked the culmination of a lifelong dream. Olivier Sèze continues to support him in his endeavors, forming a true partnership. Marie d'Halluin, the owner's daughter, also contributes to the international and digital development of this high-quality Cru Bourgeois.
