Although it is difficult to know for certain when wine production began, theCamensac CastleIts origins date back to the 18th century when the Carthusian monastery of the castle was built by thePopp familyIn 1855, at the Universal Exhibition organized by Napoleon III, Bordeaux wine brokers established a classification system and recognized the Popp family and the Camensac terroir as a wine of international caliber. It thus became a renowned Grand Cru. Five years later, the cellars were expanded and acquired their current form. Innovation has been valued since the beginning of the...Château Camensac, since the mobile press used at the time would become a model for theMedoc.
It would be 1964 before theCamensac CastleIt experienced a new beginning. Indeed, after being acquired by the Forner family, the property was renovated. Thanks to this modernization and the installation of innovative production equipment, the estate experienced a second boom.
Since 2005, these areCéline Villars-Foubet and her uncle Jean Merlautwho are at the head ofCamensac CastleTheir goal, in taking over this estate, was to restore its former glory and renown, which had been lost over the years. Today theCamensac Castleillustrates long-term success and is committed to environmental protection. The Domaine fully deserves its ranking.Grand Cru Classé of 1855thanks to these commitments and this vision of success.
The terroir of Château de Camensac
An exceptional terroir
Originally, the name of the domain comes from the dialect word for “waterway”.CamensacThis characteristic is then designated, due to its location on a perfectly drained ridge.
Camensac Castle, located in the commune of Saint-Laurent-du-Médoc, is inHaut-Médoc appellationIts vineyard now extends over150 hectares, including 86 hectares of vines planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% MerlotThe terroir consists of40 hectaresof hillsides of deep fine gravel, laid on 25 hectares of sandy clay and 10 hectares of sandy gravel.
The wines produced have a distinctive style. These characteristics are explained, among other things, by the geographical location of the vineyards. Indeed, a microclimate, mild winters, and hot summers are favorable to the healthy development of the vines.

Each plot benefits from aprecisionand aspecial attention, tailored to each one. Indeed, each foot is worked on through more than fifteen manual operations throughout the year.
Great care is constantly taken to ensure the success and, above all, the excellence of the wines. Work in the vineyard is therefore paramount, allowing the vines to fully express the terroir they benefit from. A rigorous selection of plots is thus carried out, along with controlled vinification in the production of great wines.
