History of the Estate Château Moulin Saint-Georges

the story of Château Moulin Saint-Georges

The Vineyard of Château Moulin Saint Georges

When terroir and tradition create exceptional wines

Château Moulin Saint Georges spans approximately 8 hectares of vineyards, nestled on the slopes of Saint-Émilion. The Saint-Émilion appellation, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Bordeaux. It is distinguished by the diversity of its soils and its temperate climate, ideal for cultivating Bordeaux grape varieties. The Château Moulin Saint Georges vineyard benefits from clay-limestone soils, a geological composition that imparts a beautiful structure and great aromatic complexity to the wines.

The estate's terroir allows the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties to fully flourish. Merlot, the dominant grape variety on the estate, brings roundness and a rich fruitiness to the wines of Château Moulin Saint Georges. Cabernet Franc, in turn, adds a touch of freshness and finesse, thus balancing the power of the Merlot. This perfect marriage of these two grape varieties results in harmonious wines, characterized by aromas of red and black fruits, mingled with spicy and floral notes.

The estate is undergoing organic conversion and takes particular care of the vines' health and the environment. Interventions in the vineyard are limited, and each plot is cultivated specifically to maximize the expression of the terroir. The harvest is done by hand, allowing for meticulous selection of optimally ripe bunches. This constant attention to grape quality is reflected in the precision and elegance of Château Moulin Saint Georges wines.

Winemaking at Château Moulin Saint Georges

A meticulous process for balanced and complex wines

Winemaking at Château Moulin Saint Georges follows rigorous principles, blending tradition and modernity to guarantee optimal quality in every vintage. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted before being destemmed and placed in stainless steel tanks for fermentation. This controlled fermentation process allows for a gentle extraction of tannins and aromas, while preserving the freshness of the fruit.

The wines are then aged in barrels, 100% of which are new each year. This judicious use of wood adds complexity without overpowering the fruity character of the wines. Aging in barrels lasts approximately 18 months, depending on the vintage, and imparts subtle aromas of vanilla, cocoa, and spice to the wines. This extended aging process also promotes the development of silky tannins, resulting in a velvety texture on the palate and a long, lingering finish.

The wines of Château Moulin Saint Georges are renowned for their perfect balance of power and elegance. On the palate, they are distinguished by a solid yet silky structure, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. Aromas of ripe fruit, plums, and cherries mingle with more complex notes of leather, undergrowth, and truffle, characteristic of cellar aging. These wines also possess excellent aging potential, developing fascinating tertiary aromas and even greater complexity over the years.

In short, buying a wine from Château Moulin Saint-Georges is to treat yourself to a unique experience, where the authenticity of the Saint-Émilion terroir meets the expertise of a renowned winemaking family. Whether for immediate enjoyment or to enrich your wine cellar, these refined and powerful wines promise memorable tasting moments, revealing with each sip the richness of their terroir and the subtle art of their winemaking.
