A Heritage of Prestigious Wines
The Prunotto vineyard extends over approximately 65 hectares, but its strength lies in the strategic location of its plots in the most sought-after areas of Piedmont:
-
Barolo: THE domaine owns vineyards in the famous cru Bussia, one of the largest and highest quality in the appellation, known for its powerful but balanced wines.
-
Barbaresco: Prunotto cultivates the vintage Bric Turot, a superbly situated hill which produces wines of great aromatic finesse.
-
Alba and Asti: THE domaine is also a master of Barbera (especially with la cuvée Bric Turot) and of the Moscato d'Asti.
The Terroir: The “Marna Sant’Agata”
The vineyard rests on complex soils, characteristic of the region:
-
Composition : A mixture of bluish clayey-calcareous marls, sand and silt.
-
Influence : These soils, combined with the altitude of the hills (between 250 and 400 meters), allow the grape variety Nebbioloto express its legendary tannic structure while retaining vibrant acidity and floral notes (rose, violet).
Precision Viticulture
Under the aegis of the family Antinori, Prunotto has invested heavily in restructuring its vineyards:
-
Planting density: Increased to promote competition between vines and obtain more concentrated grapes.
-
Foliage management: Meticulous work is carried out to protect the grape bunches from sunburn while ensuring perfect phenolic ripening.
-
Respect for the environment: THE domaine favours sustainable methods to preserve the biodiversity of Piedmont soils.
The Prunotto Style
Unlike some areas that seek massive extraction, Prunotto is the champion ofbalanceThe wines are renowned for being approachable in their youth while possessing immense aging potential. The use of oak is expertly judicious (a mix of large traditional casks and smaller barrels depending on the vintage) so that the terroir is never masked.
Alfred Prunotto, the founder, was such a respected figure that he was one of the first to export Piedmont wines around the world as early as the 1920s, long before the region became the global star it is today.
