Tasting Chapoutier
On this beautiful September afternoon, the Home M. Chapoutier We were given the opportunity to taste the House's countless vintages. The warm welcome and the presence of numerous vineyards on this estate promised an enriching tasting experience, full of diverse flavors. And we were not disappointed!
The House M. Chapoutier outside the borders
Since its creation in 1808 by Polydor Chapoutier, there Home M. Chapoutier is brimming with gems. It is currently the 7th generation working – still with a master's touch – on numerous exceptional terroirs in Rhône ValleyWe can cite the following examples: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and IGP Collines Rhodanienne.
Besides its Rhône Valley wines, it would be a mistake not to mention the other appellations cultivated by the House. We can, in fact, highlight the quality of the Domaine Bila-Haut in Roussillon or even from Tournon on Australian soil.
A rich and remarkably high-quality tasting experience
This impressive gathering featured over 200 wines for tasting. Ours began refreshingly with white wines from the Rhône Valley. We were particularly interested in the Saint-Joseph Deschants white 2016, the Saint-Joseph The white granites of 2016 and la cuvée parcelErmitage de l'Orée white 2011This wine still offers excellent aging potential, preserving remarkable freshness and fruitiness (apple and pear). We then continued the tasting with the red wines from the House. We tasted the Saint-Joseph Deschants and an incredible discovery, that of theIGP Collines Rhodaniennes Lucidus red 2016. What complexity on the palate!
Then, the tasting continued with the "Prestige" wines: wines representative of their appellation. We were particularly impressed by the Saint-Joseph The Granilites 2015 and the Crozes-Hermitage Les Meysonniers 2016.
There, we continued with something truly magnificent: the "Fac & Spera" cuvées. These cuvées, made from a selection of specific vineyard plots, are the most prestigious and among the most anticipated in the catalog. Chapoutier. That's sure to make some people envious...
All the vintages are organic (conversion to biodynamics (in progress), and reveal the beauty of their terroir. We were dazzled by the richness, density, and impressive aging potential. Indeed, even on theErmitage Le Pavillon In the 2011 vintage, the gentle freshness was still present, a sign of the wine's youth.
To conclude this timeless moment, the House Chapoutier did us the honor of opening a few bottles of The Hermit 2011, the ultimateThis wine, from the highest plot in Hermitage, revealed an explosive bouquet (each swirl of the glass evoked new aromas). And an equally great complexity on the palate. This is a great wine, with a breathtaking structure, and one that can still age for many years to reveal its full potential. The most patient will be rewarded…
After our palates were won over by this superb vintage, we tasted the Côte du Roussillon Villages. Latour from France VIT 2013Even at 5 years old, this wine retains a freshness and a still very beautiful tannic structure!
And we concluded with Tournon, the domaine Australian House.
