Tasting the 2016 Pessac-Léognan wines

Wine tasting at UGC Pessac Léognan the 2016 vintage took place this year at Château Carbonnieux allowed us to verify the quality of the white and red wines and to identify the best wines of the Appellation. This tasting was complemented by tastings at the Châteaux. Haut-Brion, Smith Haut Lafitte And Pape Clément.

Very high-quality 2016 Pessac-Léognan reds

At the absolute top are the wines of Château Haut-Brion and la Mission Haut-Brion They approach perfection with an incomparable velvety texture and tannin quality. Vibrant, precise, and exquisitely refined wines – an eternally long finish with multifaceted tannins. A journey of olfactory sensation. Undoubtedly the best wine of the vintage.  

Among the very great wines of the appellation, let's mention Smith Haut Lafitte, Carmelites Haut-Brion and the domaine of Chevalier. THE Château Pape Clément more on the extraction offers a fairly classic style for this vintage.

Our tasting team also liked the wine from Château Haut-BergeyA newcomer to the ranks of biodynamic winemakers. This is a wine that will offer remarkable value for money.

High-quality but rather heterogeneous white Pessac-Léognan wines

Curiously, the wine of Haut-Brion The white wine did not give us the emotion we expect from this great wine, made this year entirely from Sauvignon Blanc. We probably preferred the wine from la Mission Haut-Brion white offering a more successful Sauvignon / Sémillon blend.

Similarly, we appreciated the freshness and aromatic profiles of the white wines from Smith Haut Lafitte (very grapefruity finish), of the domaine of Chevalier, of Château Chantegrive – Caroline vintage – and the Château Haut-Bergey.
