The Burlenberg terroir is part of the Bergheim appellation in Alsace . It is based on sedimentary rock, limestone baked by magma which has therefore silicified, similar to what is found in the Côte de Nuits. This results in a soil that appears infertile, light, and does not retain water well, but is particularly well-suited to the cultivation of Pinot Noir.
Marcel Deiss
Domaine Marcel Deiss , located near Ribeauvillé, is now run by Jean-Michel and Mathieu Deiss. In Burlenberg, they cultivate primarily Pinot Noir and several of its variations—Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Beurot, and Pinot Meunier—using biodynamic methods and intercropping. This results in a wild nectar with a beautiful ruby color, aromas of small black fruits enhanced by spices, and a concentrated palate that also evokes spices. In short, a wine as volcanic as the soil from which it originates! It is therefore perfectly suited to accompany red meats and game.
This red wine can be aged for ten to fifteen years. To fully appreciate it, we recommend decanting it two hours before serving.
