    the story of Château l'Eglise-Clinet

    Château l'Église-Clinet

    THE HISTORY OF THE ESTATE

THEChâteau l'Eglise-ClinetIt was founded in 1882, which seems relatively recent for an estate surrounded by ancestral castles, right in the heart of the appellation.Pomerol, on the right bank of the Dordogne. This tiny vineyard, 5.5 hectares in size, was created by the great-great-grandfather of the current owner,Denis DurantouOver the years, he has managed to elevate it to the ranks of the very best. In its early days, however, it didn't provide its owner with a living. But with patience and the full expertise of a talented and visionary winemaker, he has given the estate greater visibility, and it is now highly sought after. Indeed, it is now considered one of the finest wines of Pomerol, at once rich, elegant, and captivating.

    The terroir of Château L'Eglise-Clinet

A UNIQUE TERROIR OF THE POMEROL APPELLATION

THEChâteau l'Eglise-ClinetIt benefits from an exceptional terroir, composed of sloping clay-gravel soil, which allows for optimal drainage of the vines. These highly favorable geological conditions, combined with a very advantageous climate, allow for the production of truly great wines, which approach or even sometimes surpass the greatest red Bordeaux wines. The grape varieties are also meticulously selected; 90% of the vines are...Merlotand 10% ofCabernet FrancTypical Bordeaux grape varieties, perfectly suited to the local geological and climatic conditions, are used. Furthermore, the entire vineyard is cultivated by hand to respect the terroir and allow it to fully express itself. Finally, the vines are relatively old (over 40 years on average), and the grapes are vinified with rigor and precision, resulting in the wine's distinctive style, both classic and modern.

    Great Wines

    CHÂTEAU L'EGLISE-CLINET

The area ofChâteau l'Eglise-ClinetBeing relatively small (5.5 hectares), wine production is also limited, much to the dismay of its devotees. Patience is therefore essential when you manage to acquire their first wine, “Château l'Eglise-Clinet,” due to its long aging potential. Indeed, it is only after 10 to 12 years of age that its full potential begins to unfold. You will then discover a wine with complex flavors, which will surprise you with its aromatic purity. Combining richness, elegance, and an incredible balance between fruitiness and suppleness, you will be captivated by this great Pomerol. If you are not fortunate enough to taste this flagship wine, you can console yourself with the second wine of Château l'Eglise-Clinet: “Petite Église.” This wine is every bit as magnificent as the first, but more affordable and ready to drink sooner.
