A family farm

The Buisson name has been present in the Saint-Romain wine world since the 12th century. However, the story that interests us begins in the last century, with Henri Buisson. Indeed, in the post-war period, a real turning point occurred for the Buisson family. At the time, Henri and Marguerite decided to sell their wine in bottles, in a context where wine was still sold in bulk. True pioneers, they also put their name on the label. That was in 1947, and this very first vintage still rests in the family cellar, like a treasure. From the outset, they worked their vineyard byagrobiology.

When their son Gilles and his wife Monica take over theHenri and Gilles Buisson estateTheir ambition is to continue to enhance its reputation. They are adding two gîtes (holiday cottages) and expanding into prestigious appellations. When they reach their current 19 hectares, their vineyard comprises:

Frédérick and Franck Buisson

A smooth transition

Today, Gilles Buisson is officially retired, so his two sons are in charge of the estate. Raised amidst the hillsides ofSaint-RomainWith degrees in oenology and international business respectively, Frédérick and Franck are passionately ensuring a high-quality future at Domaine Henri & Gilles Buisson. Frédérick, the elder, is the winemaker and production manager, while Franck is the sales manager.

The two brothers' goal is to "continue crafting wines of character [...] while preserving the very essence of the terroir, the vine, and the fruit." Indeed, it was obvious to them that they should continue the work begun by their grandfather in terms of cultivation. Motivated by a freer approach to winemaking, they see having large plots of land as an opportunity to experiment. As it happens, their neighbor, Domaine de Chassorney, managed by Fred Cossard, is a pioneer in sulfur-free winemaking. Thanks to their support, theHenri and Gilles Buisson estatesince 2010 they have been producing a Saint-Romain white wine without SO2.

Various names

The vineyard covers 19 hectares divided into 15 appellations, the predominant of which is...Saint-Romain appellationThe Henri & Gilles Buisson estate takes great care in its management, favoring low yields. They practice sustainable viticulture, without chemical inputs, and their harvest is done by hand. For the reds, which cover 11 hectares, the grape varieties are 95% Pinot Noir and 5% Gamay. For the whites, spread over 8 hectares, the blend includes Chardonnay and Aligoté in equal proportions. Since 2009, the estateH&G Buissonconverted toorganic farming, which has been certified since 2012. Indeed, it obtained its first ECOCERT certification in 2009, followed by the AB label in 2012. In the cellar, the vinification is more traditional, it is done by gravity and the wines are then aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
