History of the Estate Mas Bruguière

        the story of Mas Bruguière

The family history of Mas Bruguière

A transmission from generation to generation since the Revolution

THEMas Bruguièrehas been passed down in the family of the same name since7 generationsHe is the one who initiatedby Antoine Bruguière,A native of Mas du Barou, he purchased new land at the end of the Revolution. Since this land was not originally planted with vines, he was the first to do so. The vineyard subsequently experienced some difficult periods, such as the phylloxera epidemic which devastated all the vineyards of the area.Languedoc, including that of Mas Bruguière. This did not, however, prevent the replanting of vines on the same land in 1880, this time specializing in monoculture, which had not been the case until then. The estate suffered a devastating frost that destroyed the entire vineyard. The 10 hectares of vineyards were thus replanted for a third time in 1956. Since then, no further disaster has struck Mas Bruguière, which is still passed down from generation to generation. Since 1999, it isXavier Bruguièrewho is at the helm and who is continuing the transition begun by his parents in order to move towards a more qualitative culture andenvironmentally friendly.

        A terroir of extreme diversity

Mas Bruguière: a typical Languedoc estate

THEMas Bruguièreis typical of its region of origin: theLanguedoc.Indeed, its origin is evident from its name, a Mas being a farm or agricultural estate in the Occitan language. The family vineyard is located more precisely in the heart of the appellation.Pic Saint LoupLocated approximately 25 kilometers north of Montpellier, the vineyard benefits from a very specific microclimate with more abundant rainfall than the rest of the region and cool nights in August, which impart a characteristic freshness to its wines. Furthermore, the 20-hectare vineyard is composed ofdifferent plotsThese two plots are very distinct from one another, each contributing its own unique character to the wines of Mas Bruguière. The first plot faces due south, beneath the Hortus cliff, with a soil composed of deep scree and planted with Mourvèdre and old Grenache vines. The second faces due north, in the plain between Pic Saint Loup and the Hortus cliff, surrounding the family estate. The marly clay soil is ideal for the growth of old Syrah vines. Finally, the third plot, located about 5 kilometers north of the appellation, is the most recent and has a soil composed of red clay and hard limestone. It also boasts the most diverse range of grape varieties, including young vines of Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, Marsanne, Vermentino, and Cinsault.

        Mas Bruguière is certified organic.

Meticulous craftsmanship dedicated to creating unique wines

In addition to benefiting from a very specific microclimate, the wines ofMas Bruguièrealso acquire their distinctive character through the choices of the owners. Indeed, from 1974 when Guilhem Bruguière took over the vineyard, and then in 1999 when his son Xavier took the reins, the decision was made to turn towards aorganic viticulture. The goal is not only to express the unique character of the terroir more accurately, but also to respect its environment.certified in

In addition to committing to organic farming, the decision was also made to modernize the winery and cellar. The cellar has been completely renovated to be more functional and modern, while the winery has been built underground to protect the future vintage from light and temperature fluctuations. With a diverse selection at Mas Bruguière, there's something for everyone. You'll find well-rounded, aromatic, and very balanced reds, a substantial white wine full of freshness best enjoyed young, as well as fresh, fragrant, and fruity cuvées that are sure to please.
