the story of Château Vignelaure

The History of Château Vignelaure

The best of the terroirs of Bordeaux and Provence

In 1960, Georges Brunet left theChâteau Lalaguneand sets off in search of a vineyard in Provence. He settles on the Domaine de Saint Estève. He decides to change the name of the estate in homage to Laura, Petrarch's muse, in order to differentiate it from the famous Domaine de Saint Estèphe.BordeauxThe Bordeaux winemaker does not arrive empty-handed; he imports grafts from his native region.Cabernet Sauvignon.

As the harvest progresses, the estate establishes itself as one of the region's leading producers. Simultaneously, art takes center stage on the estate, which regularly hosts artists, exhibitions, and events.

After being vinified by the future owner of Trévallon, the estate has seen several owners come and go. Since 2007, Mette and Bengt Sundstrom have been at the helm. Thanks to their renovations and the estate team, the quality of the wines has steadily improved.

The Terroir of Vignelaure

Cabernet Sauvignon in the land of Grenache

The estate's vineyard benefits from a fairly cool microclimate due to its altitude and proximity to theSainte-Victoire.Located between 350 and 480 meters above sea level, north of Aix-en-Provence, the vineyards cover 60 hectares. The significant temperature variations between day and night allow the wines to express all the freshness and complexity of this beautiful terroir.

By settling inProvence,Georges BrunetHe brings back typical Bordeaux grape varieties in his suitcases:Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. He was also the first to import Cabernet Sauvignon to Provence. The Bordeaux grape varieties are accompanied by varieties more typical of the region:Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, Rolle, Roussanne.

Philippe Bru, at the estate management level, began vinifying white wines as early as 2013. Thanks to the conversion toOrganic FarmingThanks to significant equipment renovations and meticulous work on the terroirs through plot-by-plot vinifications, the estate is regaining the excellence that made its reputation in its early days.

The spirit of wines

“Without the sun I am nothing.”

Vignelaure is therefore the precursor ofcabernet sauvignoninProvenceThis typically Bordeaux grape variety brings considerable structure and elegance to the wines. The estate also produces age-worthy red wines, which it matures in its barrel cellar. This cellar, carved into the limestone rock, houses over 300 oak barrels from various coopers, selected for their quality.

THEChâteau Vignelaure redIt is then aged for 18 to 24 months in oak barrels. Afterwards, these same bottles will be stored in the cellar, corked, in the manner of...Bordeaux châteauxfor a minimum of 2 years. This rather long breeding period is rare inProvenceand allows for the development of the full complexity of theChâteau Rouge de Vignelaure.

The Château rosé de VignelaureThis is a gastronomic rosé. It is best enjoyed with the finest dishes. Complexity and elegance are guaranteed.
