The history of the estate
A family farm
Edmond TacusselHe established the estate between 1900 and 1905. Very quickly after the release of his first vintages, he achieved worldwide success. He placed his wines on the wine lists of the finest restaurants around the globe. From the 1930s onward, with the end of Prohibition in the United States, he exported his wine to New York. There, numerous enthusiasts spread the word about his wines.
The estate has been passed down within the same family for generations. In 1957, Guy Maurel took over the estate. Today, Edmond's grandsons, Pascal and Vincent Maurel, have carried on the tradition. The grandfather's legacy is celebrated, and numerous references to this colorful character can still be found on the property. For example, the cuvéeCombe des FousThis is a tribute to this winemaker. He planted vines on a small valley despite the advice of some. Considered crazy by all his neighbors, he stood by his choice and today it is one of the estate's flagship wines.

The Clos Saint-Jean vineyard
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a great terroir of the Rhône Valley
The vineyard ofClos Saint-Jeancovers more than 40 hectares. The wines belong to the appellation ofChâteauneuf-du-Papewith around twenty hectares on the Crau plateau. Only one hectare is dedicated to white wines, planted with Grenache Blanc, Clairette, and Roussanne. Yields are controlled using techniques such as bud thinning and green harvesting. This work allows for the selection of the best grape bunches, concentrates the juice, and improves the overall quality of the vineyard.
The vineyard is managed sustainably in order to respect the terroir ofChâteauneuf-du-Pape.The use of pesticides and insecticides is limited thanks to the use of sexual confusion.Edmond TacusselHe fell in love with the rounded pebbles so characteristic of the region. This unique feature allows the grapes to release the day's heat during the night. The berries thus reach a very good level of ripeness while avoiding the development of disease.
