On the palate, the attack is ample, structured by silky tannins, revealing complex aromas of blackberry, graphite, and fine wood. The finish is long and refined, marked by a beautiful freshness and remarkable balance, a signature of the Margaux terroir.

The Château Palmer vineyard covers approximately 66 hectares in the Margaux appellation, from which a rigorous selection supplies Alter Ego de Palmer. The vines, averaging 25 to 30 years old, are cultivated biodynamically on deep, fine gravelly soils resting on a clay-limestone base. This geological diversity gives the grapes a beautiful aromatic complexity and a balanced structure. The temperate oceanic microclimate, combined with the estate's demanding viticultural practices, guarantees optimal ripening of the berries and an authentic expression of the Médoc terroir in each vintage.

Owner and history

Château Palmer has been owned since 2004 by the Sichel and Mahler-Besse families, two historic players in the Bordeaux wine trade. Together, they breathed new life into the estate by entrusting its management to Thomas Duroux, former winemaker at Ornellaia. Under his guidance, the château converted to biodynamic farming, demonstrating a commitment to respecting life and showcasing the terroir. This rigorous and dedicated approach is reflected in the exceptional quality of the wines, including Alter Ego, which embodies their quest for harmony between innovation, tradition, and excellence in one of Margaux's most distinguished wines.

Vinification and aging

At Château Palmer, vinification is carried out plot by plot with meticulous precision. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for gentle tannin extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months, with 25 to 30% new oak for Alter Ego, to preserve the purity of the fruit.
For the 2024 vintage, Alter Ego de Palmer benefits from aging adapted to its more accessible style, while retaining a good aging capacity, with the same care as the Grand Vin.
