The Château La Gaffelière vineyard covers 22 hectares south of Saint-Émilion, nestled between the limestone slopes and the clay foothills. This unique geological configuration allows the wine to express both the power of the clay soil and the finesse of the limestone. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are cultivated using sustainable farming practices to preserve the vitality of the soils. Merlot predominates on the deep clay soils, while Cabernet Franc thrives on the limestone, contributing structure and freshness. This blend of terroirs gives the wine its characteristic depth and elegance.

Owner and history

Château La Gaffelière has belonged to the Malet Roquefort family since the 17th century, one of the oldest winemaking families in Saint-Émilion. Today, under the direction of Léo de Malet Roquefort, the estate perpetuates a legacy of excellence and innovation. Léo embodies a modern and environmentally conscious vision, with a desire to enhance the terroir while respecting tradition. Under his guidance, La Gaffelière has strengthened its unique identity by prioritizing fruit expression, precise winemaking, and the natural elegance of its wines. His commitment to sustainable quality further elevates the estate's prestige.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château La Gaffelière respects the unique character of each plot, with batch vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation proceeds slowly to preserve the full aromatic finesse and tannic structure.
The 2024 vintage is then aged in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new, for 14 to 16 months. This careful aging process gives the wine its elegance and complexity, and guarantees excellent aging potential.
