Description

Located in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, in the heart of the Médoc, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou embodies the excellence of Bordeaux's Classified Growths . An iconic estate, it takes its name from the "beautiful pebbles" found in its terroir, gravelly soils rich in quartz and pebbles that promote ideal drainage. With a history dating back to the 18th century, the château has established itself as an essential benchmark for lovers of fine, age-worthy wines. Elegance, precision, and structure define the wines of this estate, which faithfully reflect the refined and powerful character of great Saint-Julien wines.

The Château Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard covers 75 hectares on the banks of the Gironde estuary. Its unique soil, composed of deep gravel over a clay-sand subsoil, gives the wines remarkable finesse and structure. The exposure and proximity to the river create a microclimate that promotes slow and even ripening of the grapes. The estate cultivates its vines rigorously using sustainable farming practices, prioritizing biodiversity and careful observation of the vine's growth cycle to guarantee optimal fruit quality. The average age of the vines is around 35 years, ensuring ideal concentration.

Owner and history

Since 1941, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has belonged to the Borie family, currently managed by Bruno-Eugène Borie. A visionary and passionate man, he has guided the estate to absolute excellence through substantial investments, an uncompromising quality policy, and a commitment to sustainable viticulture. Heir to a centuries-old winemaking tradition, he embodies a new generation of Bordeaux owners who combine respect for the terroir, technological innovation, and a quest for oenological precision. Under his leadership, Ducru-Beaucaillou has established itself as one of the finest ambassadors of Saint-Julien, renowned for the nobility of its wines.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Ducru-Beaucaillou relies on rigorous plot selection, hand-harvesting, and gentle extraction to preserve the fruit's vibrancy. Each grape variety is vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
The 2024 vintage is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 100% of which are new, with meticulous monitoring of its aromatic and structural development. This aging on fine lees, punctuated by traditional racking, gives the wine its complexity, its satiny texture, and its exceptional aging potential.
