Tasting notes

Château Léoville Poyferré 2024 displays an intense purple robe with violet highlights. The nose is refined, dominated by ripe black fruits, graphite, cedar wood, and a subtle touch of licorice. On the palate, the attack is ample and flavorful, supported by dense yet silky tannins, a balanced acidity, and a persistent finish of sweet spices and blackcurrant. A distinguished, concentrated wine, built for aging.

Food & wine pairings

This wine will perfectly complement a tournedos Rossini, a grilled rib of beef or pan-fried ceps.

The Château Léoville Poyferré vineyard covers 80 hectares, including 20 hectares dedicated to Château Moulin Riche. Its Garonne gravel soils rest on a sandy-clay subsoil, providing optimal drainage and a unique richness for the cultivated grape varieties. The grape varieties planted are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging 42 years old. This mosaic of vineyard plots allows for a varied and complete expression of the Saint-Julien terroir.

Owner and history

Château Léoville Poyferré has been owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920. Led today by Didier Cuvelier and now by his cousin Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, the family has instilled a dynamic of modernization while preserving the heritage and soul of the estate. Their vision is based on innovation, precision, and respect for the terroir. Thanks to a gradual restructuring of the vineyard and investment in state-of-the-art production facilities, the estate has significantly improved in quality. Their unwavering commitment has elevated Léoville Poyferré to one of the most sought-after wines of the Médoc, renowned for its elegant, balanced wines, crafted for aging.

Vinification and aging

The meticulously orchestrated winemaking process begins with a double selection of the grapes, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Château Léoville Poyferré employs modern techniques, such as bioprotection, to preserve the purity of the fruit. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new, imparting structure and complexity. Each step, from pressing to blending, is carried out with care to produce refined wines that fully reflect the identity of Château Léoville Poyferré.
