Tasting notes

Château Pontet-Canet 2024 presents a deep, brilliant purple robe. The nose opens with great aromatic complexity: ripe black fruits, a delicate floral touch, and notes of cedar and black pepper. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, yet supported by silky tannins and a balancing freshness. The finish is long and elegant, revealing beautifully precise spicy and mineral nuances. A great wine for aging, with a structured and elegant profile.

Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with a roast rack of lamb, a matured rib of beef or a hare stew with truffles.

Producer

Producer

The Château Pontet-Canet vineyard spans 81 hectares of exceptional terroir, composed of deep gravel over a limestone base, in the heart of Pauillac. Biodiversity is central to their approach: horses replace tractors, the vineyards are grassed, and treatments rely exclusively on biodynamic preparations such as nettle, horsetail, and chamomile infusions. Thanks to this respectful approach, the vines develop natural resilience, allowing for optimal grape ripeness even in the most challenging years. The 2024 vintage exemplifies the success of this philosophy: despite significant mildew pressure in the spring, the meticulous care given to the vineyard resulted in perfect ripeness, with a healthy and concentrated harvest, picked between September 26 and October 11.

Owner and history

Since 1975, Château Pontet-Canet has belonged to the Tesseron family, with Alfred Tesseron at its helm until recently. A visionary and committed leader, he spearheaded a qualitative revolution at the estate by adopting biodynamic farming in 2004, a first among the classified growths of the Médoc. This pioneering approach, based on respect for life and the terroir, propelled Pontet-Canet to the pinnacle of the Pauillac appellation. Today, Justine Tesseron continues this quest for excellence, perpetuating the family values of authenticity, innovation, and the pursuit of perfection, thus consolidating the estate's global reputation.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Château Pontet-Canet 2024 respects the natural rhythms of the grapes and the vintage. The hand-harvested grapes are followed by gentle vinification in concrete vats, wooden vats, and amphorae. This meticulous, plot-by-plot approach allows for the expression of each terroir's unique character. Aging combines tradition and modernity: 50% in new oak barrels, 15% in barrels that have held one vintage, and 35% in concrete amphorae, preserving the purity of the fruit while adding structure and finesse. The result is a remarkably precise wine that blends concentration and freshness, power and elegance.
