The Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard stretches across clay-limestone slopes, benefiting from a temperate oceanic climate. The vines, some several decades old, are cultivated with care, respecting the principles of sustainable agriculture. This attention to each plot allows the aromatic potential of the grape varieties to be fully revealed. The unique terroir of Pessac-Léognan, with its rich and varied soils, imparts a rare complexity and minerality to the wines, making each bottle a true expression of its environment.

    Owner and history

Château Smith Haut Lafitte is currently managed by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, former ski champions and passionate wine lovers. Since acquiring the estate in 1990, they have been dedicated to restoring its former glory. Their commitment to quality and respect for the environment is reflected in their innovative and sustainable farming practices. They have transformed Smith Haut Lafitte into one of the jewels of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, while preserving its winemaking heritage and highlighting the authenticity of its wines.

    Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Petit Haut Lafitte 2014 is carried out with meticulous care. The hand-harvested grapes are carefully sorted before being destemmed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise temperature management and optimal aroma extraction. The wine is then aged for approximately 12 months in oak barrels, a third of which are new. This maturation process adds further complexity to the wine while preserving the integrity of the fruit. The final blend is the result of traditional expertise, skillfully combining the grape varieties to create a harmonious wine.
