Mr. Chapoutier's vineyard stretches across the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie, where the vines are cultivated in schist soils. This terroir, rich in minerals, imparts remarkable intensity and depth to the grapes. The Mediterranean climate, with continental influences, allows for optimal ripening of the berries, fostering concentrated aromas and an elegant tannic structure. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on terraces, making viticulture even more delicate but essential for producing wines of such quality.

Owner and history

Today, the estate is managed by the Chapoutier family, who perpetuate the tradition and heritage of the business founded by their ancestor. Michel Chapoutier, renowned for his innovative approach and respect for the environment, has successfully transitioned the estate to biodynamic viticulture. His commitment to quality and authenticity is reflected in every vintage, making Mr. Chapoutier a true ambassador for the Rhône Valley terroirs. The family's passion and expertise are passed down from generation to generation, guaranteeing the excellence of the wines produced.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for M. Chapoutier - Côte Rôtie La Mordorée 2018 is guided by a respectful approach to the fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before being vinified in open vats. Fermentation is natural, using indigenous yeasts, which preserves the authenticity of the terroir. The wine is aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 14 months. This aging method adds further complexity while respecting the wine's identity. The result is a harmonious wine where power and finesse meet.
