The Castillon appellation was created in 1935. It is based on three types of soil: gravel, clay, and limestone (with a clay-limestone transition), and is located on the right bank of the Garonne, adjacent to Saint-Émilion. Since 2008, Castillon has merged with three other Côtes Bordelaises to become the Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux AOC , which covers approximately 3,000 hectares. The main grape varieties cultivated are, in order of importance, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Therefore, you will find exclusively red wines here, elegant and generous, approachable even in their youth but also possessing good aging potential.

Clos Puy Arnaud

Clos Puy Arnaud is managed using organic and biodynamic farming methods by Thierry Valette ; it has been in the family for four generations. The three grape varieties of the appellation are cultivated and used in the production of the grand vin. After hand-harvesting, it is aged for seven months in barrels, then for twelve months in concrete tanks. It is an intense, fruity, and balanced wine that can age for 10 to 15 years; if you wish to enjoy it young, we recommend decanting it beforehand.

Le Clos Puy Arnaud also produces the Les Ormeaux, Pervenche and Bistrot vintages.
The Les Ormeaux cuvée is made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged for approximately six months, partly in barrels and partly in concrete tanks. It is both fresh and very flavorful, with juicy tannins. It can be enjoyed two years after its production and cellared for seven to eight years.
The Pervenche cuvée is a wine meant for early drinking, but be warned, it's a gem! It's made from the three permitted grape varieties. The wine is aged for six months, three-quarters in cement vats and one-quarter in terracotta jars. It can be enjoyed as soon as it's bottled and will keep for about five years. In the glass, its beautiful ruby color is enticing, the nose exudes red fruit and floral aromas, and the palate is silky, fruity, and spicy with fine tannins.
Finally, the Bistrot cuvée is also available as soon as it's bottled, and should be enjoyed within the year. It's made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and aged for three months in stainless steel tanks. It's a fruity and easy-drinking wine, with aromas of small red and black fruits, a crisp attack, and juicy tannins, making it a perfect match for summer dishes such as grilled meats.

Aiguilhe Castle

What is known today as Château d'Aiguilhe was originally a fortified farm in the 13th century. After the Hundred Years' War, the Château belonged to the Leberthon family; it was then sold to Etienne Martineau shortly before the French Revolution. He expanded the estate, transforming it into a vast property of 400 hectares. The estate remained in the family until 1920, when it was acquired by Stephan von Neipperg in 1998. Today, the estate is part of the Comtes von Neipperg Vineyards and comprises 111 hectares, 50 of which are planted with vines. The vineyards are predominantly south-facing and cultivated using sustainable practices within a biodynamic framework.

In addition to its grand vin, the Château produces a second red wine and a white wine. To fully appreciate them, we recommend waiting 4 to 5 years before opening these bottles.
The grand vin is Château d'Aiguilhe It is made primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, from vines around thirty years old. After hand-harvesting, vinification takes place in wooden and concrete vats, and the wine is then aged for 15 to 18 months in barrels. It is a wine with a clean nose, a straightforward palate, and a lovely length.
The second wine is called Seigneur d'Aiguilhe . It is produced from the same grape varieties as its older sibling, then aged for 15 to 20 months in oak barrels. It is a powerful and intense wine, with aromas of small red and black fruits. On the palate, it is structured with a fresh finish. The well-integrated tannins are appreciated. It pairs very well with grilled red meat, such as a ribeye steak.
Finally, Le Blanc d'Aiguilhe is the estate's dry white wine, under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation. It is produced exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. On the nose, it is fresh and fruity with citrus aromas. The fruit and freshness reappear on the palate, along with citrus notes complemented by hints of exotic fruits.
