The history of the Domaine des Entrefaux
A passion passed down from generation to generation
For five generations, Domaine des Entrefaux has passed down its expertise. It all began in 1979 when Charles Tardy founded this family business. His son, François, joined him in the 1990s, and later, his wife, Anne. Together, they developed the cultivation of the soil and vines, eventually converting the estate to organic farming, which was certified as such in 2013. Although not certified, François and Anne Tardy also practice biodynamic methods.
In total, 28 hectares are cultivated at Domaine des Entrefaux, spread across three communes: Beaumont Monteux, Mercurol and Chanos-Curson. Located in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, this estate is committed to the most faithful possible expression of the terroir on which the vines are planted.
The terroir of Domaine des Entrefaux
Highlighting the quality of the local produce
At Domaine des Entrefaux, they listen to the soil and the vines. Charles and François Tardy, these two passionate winemakers, work in harmony with their vineyard. The plots are either grassed or cultivated. The vineyard covers 28 hectares in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. The grape varieties include Syrah (100%) for the reds, and Marsanne (50%), Roussanne (30%), and Chardonnay (5%) for the whites. The soil composition is stony, with alpine diluvium and a clay-limestone composition. In addition, a few hectares are also planted with cereal crops to bring biodiversity to the terroir. The average age of the vines is 40 years.
Winemaking at Domaine des Entrefaux
Wines combining finesse and voluptuousness
Organic farming also means hand-harvesting. The wines are made naturally, with meticulous attention to detail at every stage. Vinification is carried out using indigenous yeasts. The white wines are handled minimally to ensure the purest possible expression of the fruit. The red wines ferment at a controlled temperature. Furthermore, very low doses of sulfur are used. Aging is done with finesse, with 40% in large oak casks, 20% in tanks, and 40% in barrels. Domaine des Entrefaux is a pure illustration of the true expression of the terroir. The wines are pure, consistent, and allow the fruit to express itself in all its freshness.
