History of the Estate Domaine du Coulet

the story of Domaine du Coulet

The Domaine du Coulet is located in the Cornas region.

At the heart of the wine industry

THEDomaine du Couletis located in the northeastern part of theArdèche, hasCornasnorth ofValence.Matthew
Barretthere, 10 hectares of young and old vines are cultivated, classified under the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designation.Cornasand 3 hectares ofCôtes-du-Rhônein red and white. The vines are planted on hillsides in granite soils.

Three grape varieties are grown on the farm, including theSyrahfor the reds but also theRoussanneand themarsannededicated to the production of the single white wine. The four seasons promote a regular rhythm, and the prevailing northerly winds purify the grapes. Located in theCôtes-du-Rhônenorthern regions, the climate is therefore ideal for growing grapes.

            19 years of organic farming

Domaine du Coulet: the search for the right balance

Since 2000, theDomaine du Couletis certified in agriculturebiologicaland inbiodynamicsThus, their agriculture is practiced with the utmost respect for the environment. Soil preparation is primarily carried out with mules and draft horses. Treatments are applied on foot across the hillsides and by tractor on the plateau.

Therebiodiversityis the main concern in the development of the estate's hillsides. Thus, the creation of water features, natural embankments, and the respect for existing trees are the cornerstones of this approach.

All wines are produced without oenological additives, with the exception of sulfur added at bottling. The aim is to showcase the terroir with the utmost sincerity, offering uncompromising typicity.

Through its adoption of culturebiologicalAndbiodynamic, THEDomaine du CouletHe fully embraces his desire to showcase the terroir. He therefore wishes to produce wines that respect the environment and their land of origin.

The quality of the wines from Domaine du Coulet

Carefully crafted wines that express the terroir

The grapes are transferred entirely by gravity into concrete or stainless steel tanks with a maximum capacity of 20 hectoliters. Almost all the grapes are destemmed, and extraction is carried out gently through small pump-overs or punch-downs.

From the 2017 vintage onwards, the use of oak barrels is prohibited in favor of ovoid cement and terracotta tanks, with the aim of expressing the pure aromatics of the grapes without the influence of the container.

Today, theDomaine du Couletoffers two distinct ranges of wines which are produced based on the same convictions:

The range “Domain"which comes exclusively from grapes grown in the vineyard, very focused on expressing the minerality and terroirs ofCornas.

The range “Partnership"based on sharing with winegrowers whose convictions are identical to those ofDomaine du Coulet.
