"The 2022 Solaia is exceptionally beautiful. It has gained in depth and complexity. " Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 96 points/100

"More elegant than powerful and more accessible than usual, with astonishing focus and complexity." James Suckling, 98/100

Solaia d'Antinori is an iconic Tuscan wine and one of the five Super Tuscans, along with Masseto, Ornellaia, Sassicaia, and Tignanello. These exceptional wines originated in the 1970s, thanks to innovative producers who found the local appellations too restrictive. They then planted foreign grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot or syrah , alone or blended with sagiovese .

Solaia 2022 has an exceptionally low proportion of Sangiovese. This blend allows for a perfectly controlled balance in this challenging vintage.

The vines at Domaine Antinori are planted in clay-limestone soils, rich in minerals, which promote the growth of high-quality grapes. The vineyard is situated on sunny slopes, benefiting from optimal exposure that maximizes grape ripening. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, contributes to the aromatic diversity of the grape varieties. Each plot is carefully cultivated, respecting sustainable practices to preserve the natural balance of the ecosystem.

Owner and history

The Antinori family, who have managed the estate for over six centuries, embody an exceptional winemaking tradition. Currently, the 26th generation is at the helm, perpetuating a rich heritage while innovating in winemaking practices. Each family member brings their vision and passion, ensuring that Antinori wines continue to evolve while remaining true to their roots. Their commitment to quality and sustainability makes Antinori a key player on the global wine scene.

Vinification and aging

The Solaia 2022 is made using a blend of traditional methods and modern techniques. After a carefully selected, hand-harvested grape harvest, the fruit is destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromas. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, imparting subtle woody notes while respecting the wine's unique character. This meticulous process results in a wine that is both powerful and elegant, a perfect reflection of its terroir.
