Tasting notes

This 100% Syrah displays an intense purple robe with violet highlights. The nose is deep and complex, blending black fruit, pepper, graphite, and smoky notes. On the palate, the attack is ample, marked by a dense and structured texture. The tannins are present but superbly integrated, supported by an elegant mineral backbone. The very persistent finish reveals hints of licorice and cocoa, highlighting the aging potential of this great vintage.

The Domaine Yann Chave vineyard stretches across the finest granite slopes of the Hermitage appellation, north of Tain-l'Hermitage. The vines, averaging around forty years old, sink their roots into poor soils, a blend of granite, mica, and ancient alluvial deposits. This exceptional terroir imparts to the wine its mineral character and aromatic complexity. Organic farming, combined with controlled yields, allows this Rhône Syrah to express its full purity and depth.

Yann Chave embodies the new generation of Rhône winemakers: committed, meticulous, and passionate. After taking over the family estate in 1996, he quickly converted the vineyards to organic farming, convinced that respecting the soil is essential to wine quality. His vision? To produce distinctive, straightforward, and unpretentious wines that faithfully reflect their origin. Thanks to this exacting standard, his wines are now among the most sought-after by discerning wine lovers.

Vinification and aging

Yann Chave's winemaking is based on a minimal-intervention approach, respecting the grapes and the vintage. The harvest is done by hand, followed by fermentation in concrete tanks with gentle punch-downs.
For the 2022 Hermitage, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, some of which were new, to add complexity and structure without masking the expression of the terroir. This extended maturation ensures a perfect balance between richness and finesse.
