Born from the prestigious Opus One estate, Overture embodies the refinement of Napa Valley combined with the spirit of Bordeaux. This exceptional red wine comes from a vineyard located in Oakville, in the heart of California's wine country, where clay-limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate give rise to top-tier wines. Overture is a non-vintage wine, conceived as an ode to timeless elegance. Produced with the same exacting standards as the Grand Vin Opus One, it reflects all the expertise of the estate founded by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, emblematic figures of winemaking excellence.

Notes and pairings

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

Overture reveals itself in a deep garnet robe with violet reflections. Its expressive nose blends aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cocoa, and fine wood. On the palate, the attack is ample and silky, supported by a generous texture, balanced by polished tannins. The mid-palate reveals notes of vanilla, sweet spices, and stewed dark fruits. The finish is persistent, leaving an impression of controlled power and harmony.

Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with a beef fillet, a roast duck breast or even a mushroom risotto.

The Opus One vineyard spans approximately 68 hectares located within the Oakville AVA appellation, in the heart of Napa Valley. The vines, planted in well-drained clay-loam soils, benefit from a sunny climate with cool nights, promoting slow and even ripening. The planting density and controlled yields ensure exceptionally concentrated grapes. The Overture cuvée is sourced from various parcels within the estate, expressing the complexity of this unique Californian terroir.

Owner and history

Opus One was born from the union of two legends: the Californian visionary Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a prominent figure in Bordeaux. Today, the estate is owned equally by Constellation Brands and Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA. Their shared vision of excellence, sustainability, and elegance is reflected in every bottle. The current team perpetuates this philosophy by combining innovation, technical precision, and respect for the terroir, positioning Opus One as an essential global benchmark.

Vinification and aging

At Opus One, winemaking is ultra-precise and respectful of each batch. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted, and then vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aging takes place for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, the majority of which are new, imparting elegance and structure to the wine.
Overture is a blend of several vintages aged in barrels, resulting in a cuvée of great consistency, complex and immediately accessible.
