Chianti Classico Riserva is an Italian appellation, located in Tuscany. The Riserva designation requires a longer aging process than for standard Chianti. The wines are aged for 12 months in barrels or casks, then for at least 3 months in the bottle. To qualify for the Classico designation, the grapes must come exclusively from vineyards between Florence and Siena. This core production area guarantees exceptionally high-quality grapes. The wines are marked by the sublime terroir of Chianti and offer unforgettable tasting experiences. The Chianti and Chianti Classico appellations are two Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) located in Tuscany, Italy. To be labeled Chianti Classico, the grapes must come from the provinces of Florence and Siena, while for the Chianti appellation, they can also come from the provinces of Pisa, Pistoia, Aezzo, and Prato. The wine must be composed of at least 70% Sangiovese, an indigenous grape variety, for Chianti, and 80% for Chianti Classico. Chianti also allows the use of up to 10% white grape varieties in the blend. Chianti and Chianti Classico are DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) appellations, which is equivalent to the French AOC/AOP. The "G" signifies that, in addition to rules concerning geographical areas, grape variety proportions, and certain winemaking characteristics (alcohol content, yield, etc.), an approval tasting must be carried out by an independent committee.
