Owner and history

In the eastern part of the appellation, in Saint-Etienne-de-Lisse, between Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte, Valandraud has grown from sixty ares around 1990 to over 20 hectares today. The vines are pruned using the double Guyot method. Various tasks are carried out: shoot thinning, vine training, leaf removal, and green harvesting. The harvest, done by hand, takes place over just a few days, but it's a family affair, involving about fifty people.

Vinification and aging

An initial sorting takes place in the vineyard to harvest only the fully ripe grapes. Once at Mr. Thunevin's eco-friendly winery, the grapes are selected again before being destemmed. The winemaking process at Château Valandraud continues with pump-overs and punch-downs. The new Valandraud vintage is then transferred to 100% new oak barrels to complete its fermentation.
