Description

    M. Chapoutier , founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, has established itself as one of the most visionary estates in France, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture and a master of a unique, plot-by-plot interpretation of great terroirs. Since Michel Chapoutier, the house has been dedicated to revealing the personality of each vineyard site with unparalleled precision.
Meanwhile, Maison Guigal , founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis, has become an absolute benchmark in the Rhône Valley. Driven by three generations, it has elevated Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Hermitage to the status of global icons through meticulous work, extended aging, and an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. Wines such as La Doriane, La Mordorée, and Château d'Ampuis are among the most sought-after in the Rhône.

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The whites shine with their breadth and depth:
Les Granits 2017 reveals notes of ripe white fruit, almond and warm stone, while La Doriane 2019 expresses the quintessence of Viognier, with aromas of apricot, violet and a beautifully balanced, smooth texture.

The reds offer a fascinating interpretation of Syrah:
La Mordorée 2018 seduces with its aromas of blackberry, violet and sweet spices; Château d'Ampuis 2020 combines power and refinement, with a chiseled and long palate; the Hermitage Rouge 2020 is distinguished by its depth, its noble tannins and its intense aroma of black fruits, graphite and pepper.

    Food & wine pairings

The white wines, dense and expressive, enhance fine fish, shellfish, creamy poultry, or mature soft cheeses.

Red wines enhance roasted meats, duck breast, tender game, stews with mild spices, or strong cheeses.

These wines come from the finest terroirs of the Northern Rhône: the granite soils of Saint-Joseph, the vertiginous schist and mica schist of Côte-Rôtie, the sun-drenched granite terraces of Condrieu, and the majestic hill of Hermitage, a mosaic of soils rich in alluvium, loess, gravel, and granite. This unique topography, shaped into steep terraces, gives rise to concentrated grapes, low yields, and an incomparable aromatic identity.

    Owner and history

The Chapoutier family, now led by Michel Chapoutier and his team, perpetuates a heritage spanning over two centuries, maintaining a philosophy centered on the purest expression of the terroir. The Guigal family, represented by Marcel and then Philippe Guigal, elevated Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu to the status of legendary appellations thanks to a precise vision, masterful craftsmanship, and exemplary family tradition. These two houses, pillars of the Rhône Valley, produce wines that have become essential for any wine lover seeking emotion, authenticity, and grandeur.

    Vinification and aging

Chapoutier and Guigal prioritize rigorous plot selection, hand-harvesting, and winemaking that respects the fruit. The white wines are aged partly in oak barrels, with meticulous work on the lees to achieve a full and harmonious texture. The red wines benefit from extended aging, a hallmark of great Northern Rhône wines: gentle extraction, controlled fermentation, and then prolonged time in barrels, resulting in tannic finesse, depth, and excellent aging potential.

    The team's opinion

A selection of icons from the northern Rhône, combining the brilliance of great white granite wines with the vibrant depth of the finest Syrahs from Chapoutier and Guigal.
