The Pio Cesare vineyard extends across carefully selected plots in the finest crus of Barolo. The soil, primarily clay and limestone, imparts remarkable structure and minerality to the wines. The temperate climate, with significant temperature variations between day and night, allows for optimal grape ripening, thus enhancing the expression of aromas. Each vineyard is cultivated with meticulous care, adhering to the principles of sustainable viticulture, to guarantee grapes of the highest quality. Hand-harvesting ensures that only the best fruit is selected for vinification.

    Owner and history

Today, the Pio Cesare family still runs the estate, perpetuating the legacy of its founder, Pio Cesare. The current generation, led by Cesare and his sister, strives to maintain a balance between tradition and innovation. Their passion for wine and their deep connection to the land are reflected in their meticulous attention to every stage of production. They are determined to preserve the estate's reputation while exploring new avenues for the future, ensuring that Pio Cesare wines continue to delight wine lovers worldwide.

    Vinification and aging

The 2017 Barolo Ornato is made using traditional methods while incorporating modern techniques to maximize the expression of the terroir. After hand-harvesting the grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, allowing for gentle tannin extraction. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, a combination of new and used casks to add complexity and depth without masking the fruit. This aging process lasts approximately 24 months, followed by bottle aging before release. This meticulous process reflects Pio Cesare's commitment to excellence.
