The Château La Clotte vineyard covers approximately 4 hectares, nestled in the most chalky part of Saint-Émilion. The vines, averaging 50 years old, have deep roots in a soil blending limestone with asterias fossils and Fronsac molasse. This unique geology gives the wine a singular structure and remarkable mineral tension. Facing due south, the plots benefit from ideal sunshine and optimal ripening conditions. The vineyards are meticulously tended, following sustainable practices that respect the natural balance of the soil and the vine.

Owner and history

Château La Clotte has belonged to the Vauthier family since 1997, renowned for their meticulous work at Château Ausone, a Premier Grand Cru Classé A of Saint-Émilion. Pauline Vauthier, an oenologist trained to the highest standards, now manages the estate with exacting standards and humility. Their vision is based on artisanal, human-scale viticulture and a precise understanding of the terroir. By leveraging the site's exceptional limestone potential, the family has restored La Clotte to its former glory. This once-exclusive estate has now established itself as one of the most unique and authentic wines of the appellation.

Vinification and aging

Château La Clotte employs gravity-flow winemaking in a modern winery, blending tradition and technology. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with rigorous extraction management. The wine is then aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new.
For the 2024 vintage, the winemaking process prioritized fruit freshness and the gentle integration of oak. The result is a wine with a refined profile, fine tannins, beautiful density, and promising aging potential, true to the elegance of the Vauthier style.
