The Opus One vineyard is situated on varied soils, primarily clay-limestone, which promote optimal drainage and good moisture retention. The Napa Valley climate, with its warm days and cool nights, allows for a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. The meticulously tended vines are planted at high densities to maximize fruit quality. This attention to the vineyard is essential for producing wines of such elegance and complexity.

Owner and history

Today, Opus One is owned by the Rothschild family, who continue to honor the legacy of its founder. Under the guidance of the current generation, the estate remains at the forefront of innovation while respecting its traditions. Their commitment to sustainable viticulture and artisanal winemaking techniques guarantee the enduring quality of their wines. This dedication to excellence and passion for crafting great wines make Opus One a symbol of prestige and refinement in the wine world.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Opus One is a meticulous process that begins with the hand-harvesting of the grapes. After rigorous sorting, the berries are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, allowing for precise temperature control. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 18 months. This aging process imparts aromas of vanilla and spice, while also integrating the tannins. The final blend is carefully crafted, aiming to create a harmonious wine that reflects the estate's identity.
