Tasting notes

The 2013 Opus One boasts a deep, almost opaque red color. On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruit, blackcurrant, and cherry mingle with subtle notes of cedar and spice. On the palate, this wine reveals a silky texture, with elegant tannins and a lovely acidity that lend it freshness and length. The finish is persistent, leaving a trace of dark chocolate and licorice, promising excellent aging potential.

Food & wine pairings

The Opus One vineyard spans 113 hectares, planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, with complementary grape varieties that enrich its complexity. The varied soil, composed of gravel, sand, and clay, offers excellent drainage and promotes deep root development. The Napa Valley climate, with its warm days and cool nights, allows for optimal grape ripening, resulting in exceptional aromatic concentration. Each plot is carefully cultivated to respect biodiversity and the natural balance, reflecting the estate's sustainable philosophy.

Owner and history

Currently, Opus One is managed by a passionate team that carries on the legacy of its founders. The Rothschild family, through its commitment, ensures the continuity of the original vision while integrating modern practices. This estate, a true symbol of elegance and prestige, attracts wine lovers from around the world, eager to explore the richness of its vintages. The owners are determined to maintain exceptional quality and make Opus One an ambassador for Napa Valley on the world stage.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Opus One is meticulous, beginning with the hand-harvesting of carefully selected grapes. After gentle destemming, the berries are fermented in stainless steel tanks, allowing for a gentle extraction of tannins. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 18 months. This phase imparts subtle woody aromas while preserving the purity of the fruit. Each grape variety is vinified separately before blending, ensuring perfect harmony in the final wine.
