The Petrus vineyard is situated on clay-limestone soil, ideal for Merlot, which finds perfect expression here. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are cultivated with care, respecting the principles of sustainable viticulture. Bordeaux's oceanic climate, with its hot summers and mild winters, contributes to the optimal ripening of the grapes. Each harvest is carried out by hand, guaranteeing rigorous selection of the bunches, which are then vinified with meticulous attention.

Owner and history

Today, the Petrus estate is owned by the Moueix family, who have preserved and passed on the heritage of this grand cru. Jean-Pierre Moueix, an iconic figure in Bordeaux, played a key role in Petrus's international renown. His passion for wine and his deep connection to the terroir ensured the continued high standards for which this wine is famous. The current owners continue to cultivate this philosophy, blending tradition and innovation to produce ever more remarkable vintages.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Petrus 1989 is distinguished by its artisanal approach, where each step is meticulously orchestrated. After a manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing for precise temperature management. Aging occurs in oak barrels, a significant percentage of which are new, to impart additional aromatic complexity. This meticulous attention to detail in aging contributes to the finesse and longevity of this exceptional wine.
