A man's passion
The wine-making adventure ofAlain Brumontbegins in 1979, inheriting theBoucassé CastleThe following year he bought back theMontus Castleand sets his mind on bringing theTannat, a typical grape variety of the Southwest. This ambition will be a great success since theChâteau Montus Prestige cuvée(100% Tannat) will be nicknamed “the Petrus of Madiran"With this one wine alone,Alain Brumonthas succeeded in restoring the reputation of the entire appellation. As its renown grew, it became necessary to consider the development of the estates, and significant redevelopment work was undertaken.Boucassé Castlewill thus be equipped with a very fine barrel cellar, while that of Château Montus will be modernized. Alain Brumont is finally rewarded for his efforts and obtains the title ofbest winemaker of the 80sbyGault & Millau.
His adventures continued into the 2000s when he expanded his range withTorusand whites ofCôtes de Gascogne.
Philosophy
The interpretation of the terroir
The A. Brumont terroir is exceptional. The vineyards are situated on hilltops, and each plot is separated by a wood. This prevents contamination and, above all, blocks residues from the farming practices of neighboring lands. Indeed,Alain BrumontBrumont Vineyards does not use insecticides and makes it a point of honor to preserve the environment of its vineyards. This respect continues in the winery. The philosophy of Brumont Vineyards is based on the values of its owner. Alain Brumont has thus imposed his will to assert a style that is uniquely his own:Brumontis like a designation within a designation. And “his style” could be summed up as “the most faithful interpretation of the terroirs of the SouthwestHis desire is to allow tasters to rediscover in their glass all the alchemy of an environment, a grape variety, a soil, and the expertise of a winemaker. In other words, he wishes to interpretthe quintessence of the terroir.
