The Penfolds wine region spans several regions of Australia, offering a diversity of soils and climates. Syrah vines are often grown in clay-limestone soils, which promote concentrated aromas and complex wines. The warm, sunny climate, combined with cool nights, allows for optimal grape ripening, ensuring perfect balance between sugar and acidity. Each plot is carefully selected for its potential, reflecting the unique character of the region.

Owner and history

Today, Penfolds is part of Treasury Wine Estates, a global leader in the wine industry. The winery is run by a passionate team that carries on the legacy of Christopher Penfold. The current owners are committed to maintaining the standards of excellence that have made the brand famous, while also exploring new avenues for innovation. Thanks to their vision, Penfolds continues to produce iconic wines that appeal to connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike, while remaining true to its roots.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process at Penfolds Grange is meticulous, combining tradition and innovation. The grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed before being fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 12 to 18 months. This process allows for the incorporation of oak notes while preserving the purity of the fruit. The result is a wine of great complexity, where each step of the winemaking process is carefully considered to enhance the terroir and the grape varieties.
