    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The 2020 vintage of Les Poyeux reveals an intense garnet color with purplish highlights. The nose opens with deep aromas of black cherry, violet, and white pepper, with a touch of graphite. On the palate, the attack is supple, the texture juicy and precise, supported by a mineral structure that lengthens the finish. The balance between ripe fruit, spice, and mineral freshness defines an elegant wine with remarkable persistence.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with veal chop with chanterelles, roast pigeon or mature cheeses such as aged gouda.

The vines for the Les Poyeux cuvée are rooted in clay-limestone soil resting on the renowned Saumur tuffeau, which imparts its distinctive mineral character to the wine. The vineyard, cultivated according to organic farming principles, is meticulously tended to reveal the unique identity of this exceptional terroir. The old Cabernet Franc vines, over 45 years old, produce low but high-quality yields, guaranteeing a structured and expressive wine.

    Owner and history

The work in the cellar reflects the philosophy of the estate: respect for the fruit and its origin. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, with gentle extraction. Les Poyeux 2020 is then aged for 12 to 14 months in demi-muids, which imparts structure and complexity without masking the expression of the terroir. Aging on fine lees promotes a silky texture and significant aging potential.

    Vinification and aging

Antoine Sanzay took over the reins of the family estate in 1999, after a first career as a cooperative member. A visionary and perfectionist, he chose to vinify his own grapes, initiating a dramatic rise in quality. His commitment to organic viticulture and his deep respect for the terroir have made him a leading figure in Saumur. Through his wines, he expresses a precise, refined, and sincere vision of wine, dedicated to evoking the taster's emotions.

    The team's opinion
