    Description

95/100 pts VINOUSThe 2019 Les Poyeux is a Cabernet Franc with a melting texture that caresses the palate. It's a very youthful and balanced style, but doesn't feel heavy despite the depth of the fruit. It's not a wine of primary fruit, it's a wine of texture . The tannins generously coat the palate with their rich, grainy texture. A long maceration on the skins after fermentation gives it character of Earl Grey tea leaf and black cherry. A complex, long, and youthful wine .

Terroir: a terroir made legendary by the Foucault brothers of Clos Rougeard. Clay-limestone soils, Turonian chalk composed of aeolian sands . Average age of vines: 55 years.

    Viticulture : organic.

Winemaking & Aging : The grapes are fully destemmed. Indigenous yeasts. Fermentation in concrete vats (30 days). 18 months in wooden vats and barrels that have held 5 wines. Very light filtration upon addition.

Domaine Antoine Sanzay is a rising star in the Loire Valley, located in Varrains, in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. Born into a family of winemakers, Antoine Sanzay took over the reins of the family estate with passion and precision. He quickly established himself as a key figure, particularly thanks to his Les Poyeux cuvée.

The Poyeux vineyard stretches across a limestone hillside predominantly composed of tuffeau, giving the wine a characteristic freshness and minerality. The vines, around sixty years old, are cultivated without herbicides or synthetic products, with deep respect for biodiversity. The Varrains terroir, renowned for its ability to produce exceptional Cabernet Franc, is here enhanced by rigorous vineyard management and limited yields.

    Owner and history

Born into a family of winemakers, Antoine Sanzay took over the estate in the 2000s, transforming it into a rising star in the Saumur region. A visionary, he quickly converted all the vineyards to organic farming. A meticulous and humble craftsman, he seeks above all the sincere expression of the terroir in each vintage. Thanks to his refined and sensitive approach, his wines are now finding increasing acclaim among wine lovers and sommeliers worldwide.

    Vinification and aging

The estate focuses on gentle winemaking, in concrete tanks, with indigenous yeasts and long macerations to respect the integrity of the fruit.
The Les Poyeux 2019 vintage benefits from 12 months of aging in barrels, including a portion in demi-muids, for slow oxygenation and harmonious integration of the wood.

    The team's opinion

A pure gem of Saumur-Champigny, Les Poyeux 2019 subtly reveals the elegance of its terroir, while offering remarkable depth with every sip.
